Welcome to Paradise
New York has certainly been looking South for beauty inspiration this Fashion Week! Jeremy Scott gave us another of our favourite looks this week with his Elly May Clampett of The Beverly Hillbillies inspired collection. Fresh, luminous skin, cute-as-a-button freckles and sexy-as-hell liner combine to give us this pinup girl next door (or farm?) makeup. According to Val Garland the look was “Daisy Duke goes to Paradise City”… What a combo!! Read the rest of this entry »
Bollywood Western?
New York Fashion Week has so far brought us some gorgeous designs for Spring/Summer 2012 rtw but none have got us as excited as the amazing hair and makeup created for Thakoon’s latest offering.
Described as ‘Bollywood Western’ and fusing Indian-inspired brights of turquoises, saffrons and oranges with Western shirts, the collection was awash with summer brights to cheer us up as we enjoy the last few days of summer… But perhaps unsurprisingly, it was this striking beauty look that really caught our attention.
The brief provided by designer Panichgul was “the ideal of the iconic American cowboy gone multi-cultural. The color story came from India, inspired by the spice market — but with a cowboy flair”.
Lead artist Diane Kendall for NARS Cosmetics says of the look she created “Because the collection is so colorful, I wanted to focus on a classic, strong brow. I kept the face natural, with a little pink on the cheek for healthy color. On the eyes, I focused on contouring to show strength and attitude, a cowboy attitude that is”.
To create this gorgeous look, Kendall used NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturiser followed by Zen Blush and Gaiety Blush, a beautiful soft pink due out Feb ’12.
The products used on the eyes were a combination of earthy NARS shadows in taupes and chocolate browns including Bengali, Blondie and the Portobello Duo as well as a touch of Laguna bronzer. Lips were kept soft with Belle de Jour Velvet Matte Lip Pencil, a jumbo crayon with a lipstick-like application. The look was finished with a coating of the champagne gold Versailles nail polish.
And of course we couldn’t end without talking about that INCREDIBLE hair!! Hair stylist Odile Gilbert was instructed by Thakoon that he wanted bright hair and she certainly did not disappoint, painting on powdered colored clay mixed with water to get the candy-coloured hues you see here.
Regardless of what you may make of the collection itself, there’s no denying the clothing, makeup and hair certainly combined to eye-catching effect. We likey!

Scottish Ballet Delivers A Wonderland
Click here to see behind the scenes footage
This spring, Scottish Ballet presents the world premiere of Alice, an extraordinary adventure into the depths of imagination, sponsored by Adam & Company.
After tumbling through a camera lens, Alice finds herself in a strange dreamlike place. Drifting through episodes from Lewis Carroll’s treasured stories, she meets a series of fantastical characters who each impatiently try to teach her something, and guided by Carroll himself, she has to rely on her wits to find her way out.
Featuring choreography by Artistic Director Ashley Page, otherworldly designs from Antony McDonald and a specially commissioned musical score by Robert Moran, this is an unforgettable take on the most curious of tales. Almost 150 years ago three sisters – Alice, Lorina and Edith Liddell – shared a leisurely boat trip on the river Isis with family friend Reverend Charles Dodgson (Lewis Carroll). The children began to grow restless and Alice, the feistiest of the three, begged Dodgson to invent for her a wonderful story ‘with lots of nonsense in it’ – and so Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland began… Read the rest of this entry »
