Lip Service
By POSED Beauty Editor Jak Morgan…
Forget the Wonderbras, stilettos and false eyelashes. If you really want to get a man’s attention the most effective way is to wear red lipstick! A recent study carried out by scientists at Manchester University found that when presenting men with images of different women, the part of the body that held their attention the longest was their lips. Especially if the woman was wearing red lipstick!
Now, far be it from us to suggest the only reason you wear something is for a man’s attention… but there’s no harm in testing a new theory in the name of science!! So the beauty team at POSED thought we would recommend some of our very favourite reds to help get you started.
Ruby Woo by M.A.C. £12.50
A real Marilyn Monroe, Hollywood red! Gorgeous when applied perfectly with a liner (try Redd by M.A.C.) or smudged on with your finger for a more relaxed look. This is a very matte lipstick and extremely long lasting (I often wear this and it doesn’t need to be re-applied all day). Even kiss-proof so could possibly be the perfect lipstick to test this particular theory!
Star Ruby Pure Colour Gloss by Estee Lauder £16
If you prefer the feel of a gloss to a lipstick but still want the same colour burst then try this vibrant, full colour lip gloss. This really delivers on its mirror-like shine promise and (amazingly for a gloss!) doesn’t bleed at all. Sometimes the colour of glosses can be a disappointment and to get a bold colour you have to apply it on top of lipstick. This works just as well on its own!
Scarlet Lip Stain by Laura Mercier £16
A classic, sophisticated red, this product gives you the long-lasting benefits of a stain but with the texture of a lip balm. Apply with a lip brush or your finger.
Rouge Noir by Chanel £21.50
This colour could be the definition of Vamp! You may recognise this gorgeous blood-red as the colour popularised by Uma Thurman in Pulp Fiction. Still a classic all these years on, they have possibly even improved on perfection with the Rouge Coco formula which is extremely moisturising and looks just as sultry when applied with fingers for a stained look as it does applied straight from the bullet.
Medieval by Lipstick Queen £19.50
If you fancy something a bit sheerer then this could be the one for you. It’s a very natural red stain which feels incredibly moisturising. This is perfect if you prefer a more natural look but still want a hint of colour.
Jungle Red by NARS £17
A bright orangey-red which comes in a semi-matte formula. This is a bit more velvety than others such as Ruby Woo so if you find a very matte texture too drying for your lips then give this one a try. You’ll love it!
Cherry Lush by Tom Ford £35
If one man knows all about the art of seduction it’s Tom Ford! With his collection of Perfect Blend Lip Colours he has created a stunning lipstick with a delicious creamy texture. Add in the seductive red shade of Cherry Lush and you’ve got the ultimate secret weapon!
Lady Danger by M.A.C. £12.50
Last but by no means least is my personal favourite. This is a VERY loud red with strong coral undertones which screams confidence! Another matte lipstick but with a slightly velvety texture which makes it a dream to apply and gives such a strong wash of colour one coat is all you’ll need. I experiment with reds all the time (Ruby Woo and Hellbent are other favourites of mine) but I come back to this one every time. Give it a try, you’ll thank us!
The best of the rest…
